Dialoog Labuan Bajo

Flores, NTT, Indonesia

Unlike the Umalas Dialoog, here we were faced with a “green field” steeply sloping site overlooking the harbour/port of Labuan Bajo, with views towards the famed Komodo islands. Given the reality of practical/achievable room rates, the budget for this property is necessarily limited, which resulted in us both needing to plan the site carefully with only 2-storey “blocks” (to avoid the use of lifts) and utilize whatever possible, locally available techniques and construction methods (the port has very limited loading/unloading capacity for anything “imported” from Java etc.). All room blocks, once again, feature through ventilation and green roofs to passively cool the rooms. Wherever possible, materials are local sourced and utilize local artisans in their creation/execution.

In addition to providing the architectural and interior design, GFAB designed the road/buggy track infrastructure, which services the property’s distinct blocks across the steeply sloping site and resort signage.
